Er kan met recht worden gesproken van een zeer geslaagde en succesvolle afsluiting van seizoen 2013. In de uiterst sfeervolle bioscoop van JT Cinema’s in Amersfoort werden meer dan 60 Westfield gasten ontvangen. Rijders en hun familieleden, supporters, sponsoren lieten zich niet onbetuigd. Tot op heden de grootste opkomst aller tijden!
Een aantal rijders hadden zelfs hun Michael & Giso “Made to Measure” Westfield Raceshirt voor deze gelegenheid aangetrokken. Kortom: de heren hadden zich goed voorbereid en iedereen had er zin in!
Na het flitsende welkomstwoord van voorzitter Arjen Heeck werd gestart met een compilatie – van nog niet eerder vertoonde beelden – van de laatste race op de Nürburgring. Na deze opwarmer werd direct het hoofdmenu – RUSH – geserveerd! RUSH vertelt op indringende wijze de op ware feiten gebaseerde rivaliteit tussen F1 coureurs James Hunt en Niki Lauda. Voor liefhebbers hier nog even de geweldige documentaire.
Na deze enerverende ervaring werd direct aansluitend de prijsuitreiking gehouden. “Rookie” Koen Joustra en “Spinmeister” John Hoogland namen hun prijzen – een slabbertje en een spin – op sportieve wijze en onder een luid applaus in ontvangst.
Vervolgens werden de prijzen 5 t/m 1 verdeeld aan Willem Vriend (5e), Jan Stakenburg (4e), Team Wellink – Hayley Lazell en Hans Wellink (3e) en Team Raek Racing – Marth de Graaf en Arjen Heeck (2e). Last but not least was het de Westfield Against Cancer Cup Kampioen 2013 – Dennis de Groot – die de grootste beker trots in ontvangst mocht nemen. Dit alles ging – zoals inmiddels bekend – vergezeld onder de nodige hilariteit en oorverdovend applaus!
Hierna was het de beurt aan de veiling. Maar niet voordat speciaal genodige Jeltje Gieles – stichting Against Cancer – het belang hiervan onderstreepte. Kunstenaar/striptekenaar Remy van Gaalen had een geweldige gift: de opbrengst geheel ten behoeve van Against Cancer te stellen! Na zijn intro werd het 1e bod geopend op € 150,- Na enige aarzeling vloog de prijs omhoog doordat de bedragen spontaan uit de zaal werden geroepen! Op € 700,- werd uiteindelijk afgeslagen! De gelukkige – Philip Griffioen – kreeg het bijzonder fraaie en originele doek voor zijn verjaardag van Roy Griffioen en Andrew Vosselman! In alle opzichten een mooi gebaar van deze enthousiaste en sportieve kopers!
Ten slotte kreeg 6e plaats winnaar Wilbert Groenewoud nog zijn fel begeerde beker. Hij had er lang op moeten wachten maar was niet minder enthousiast!
Aansluitend verplaatste de hele zaal zich naar de beneden gelegen bar alwaar de consumptiemuntjes driftig werden ingewisseld. Er werd nog lang en gezellig nagekeuveld! Resumerend: een gezellig ouderwetse topavond die bol stond van vermaak, ongedwongenheid en sportief plezier! Op naar seizoen 2014!
